"It's said that its very
middle is scattered with lots of small islands. One of these isles is
placed between the sea and its mouth, as big as the Rhodos isle and
named Peuce, because of its many pine trees around here. Towards the
sea, Peuce is followed by Achilles isle."

The Danube Delta has at its disposal a 4152 km2 entire area, 3450 km2
being seated only on Romanian ground. The Danube Delta is the second
biggest European Delta after the Volga's Delta and the 23-rd in a worldwide
top. The Danube Delta formed as the result of the Danube running into
the Black Sea. In its turn, the Danube crosses 9 countries from its
spring (the Black Forest Mountains in Germany) to its flowing into the
Black Sea, draining almost 800,000 km2. The Danube it's forking its
flow at Patlageanca, in two different branches: Chilia towards North
and Tulcea towards South, this one dividing afterwards in two more branches:
Sulina and Sf.Gheorghe. The Danube Delta is Romania's latest developed
relief structure and the vastest European humid reservation, being wrinkled
by lots of canals, brooks, swamps and lakes.
Admitted starting with 1990 in the UNESCO inheritance the Delta is an
enormous natural laboratory inside it taking place intense physical,
chemical and biochemical processes, decanting and purifying the waters,
as well as biologic processes of birth and proliferation of an impressive
number of beings. Biologists have ascertained that, in the moment of
its flow into the Black Sea, the Danube waters contain, besides calcium
carbonate, large quantities of plankton and microscopic fauna, mollusks
and crustaceans, which find here an excellent medium for rapid proliferation.
Large quantities of their organic remains are carried away by streams
towards South, and the sea waves grind these remains, in their restless
movement, thus producing one of the finest sand of the beaches.
The Danube Delta is still a coin of wild nature, as generous as it is
harsh; providing shelter, food and peace to the beings living on this
realm.
The diversity of this ecosystem is offered as well to all human being
as long as they do not try to harm nature's vital components.
