Due to its extremely eastern geographical position the Danube Delta's climate is continental dry, with a Pontic tint. The average temperature over the year crosses over 10 C degrees, the highest Romanian temperature. The Danube Delta is the most draughty place in the country, the rainfall leaks being equalized by the aquatic surfaces evaporation resultant humidity. Quite frequent you can meet here the north wind and the morning breeze.

Because of its geographic position at 45 degrees N latitude, in the Black Sea's nearby, and the great diversity of landscape, in which the amphibious environment prevails, The Danube Delta has a temperate continental climate with Pontic influences. The values of the main climatic parameters are: low nebulosity - 70 days with clear sky, the sun shines 2,500 hours/year, average annual temperature of -1 Celsius degree (an average of 21 Celsius degrees in July), and the rainfall level measuring 400-450 mm/year in the West and 300-350 mm/year in the East.

The low quantities of rainfall in the summertime are joined by the phenomenon of accentuated evaporation over the surface of the water (950-1,000 mm/year), helped and amplified by the strong and frequent winds. Fall and spring in the Danube Delta are stormy seasons, because of the North-East winds which also alter the seashore to abrasion.

All this historical evolution led to a completely different geography concerning the Danube Delta. It can be noticed starting with the very first junction of the Danube towards the seashore as well as its inner branches, which naturally led to the genesis of ridges, lakes, brooks and swamps, meaning an entirely particular ecological unit.
